Teens brawl with cleavers and swords
Five teenagers, aged between 15 to 19, were arrested for fighting with cleavers and swords in Battambang province on Wednesday. Police said the brawl occurred after several of the teens drove to their rival’s home to take revenge over a recent spat. No one was badly injured in the fighting, although a motorcycle was damaged. Police were preparing documents to send the alleged perpetrators to the provincial court along with the swords and cleavers.

Necklace thief fails to make clean getaway
A 37-year-old woman was arrested for theft after being apprehended 10 metres from where she had attempted to steal a gold necklace from a vendor. Police said the woman, who has five children, entered the market at about 8:30am on Wednesday and pretended to buy a necklace from a jewellery vendor before snatching it and trying to escape. She was turned over to police in Kampong Chhnang province by the local market vendors. The woman confessed but the reason for the attempted theft was not reported.

Dance party dispute leaves man dead
The body of a 23-year-old man was discovered by his father in a plantation on Tuesday morning after he went missing from home for one night. Police in Prey Veng province arrested a man, 21, on suspicion of murder, but the accused claims his friend is actually the murderer and that the deceased had tried to kill his friend after a dispute occurred at a dance party in the village on Monday night. He said the victim confronted his friend and was stabbed with a knife. The friend, and alleged murderer, fled the village while the arrested man returned home after the murder. Police are looking for the man on the run.

Speeding driver kills two on bicycles
Two people died after being hit by a Hyundai truck while riding bicycles on Wednesday night. Banteay Meanchey provincial police said one teen died at the scene and the other died at the provincial hospital. A witness said the driver of the Hyundai was speeding on a dusty road and ran into the two workers from behind as they were travelling in the same direction. The truck was taken into police custody but it was unclear whether they had arrested the driver.

Police arrest former KR soldier for robbery
A Battambang provincial police on Thursday arrested a former Khmer Rouge soldier, 44, on suspicion of committing robbery last May. Police said the arrest was made in connection with a case where three men carrying an AK rifle and wearing soldier uniforms robbed a family and escaped with valuables on May 15, 2010.
